Geraldton Residential College - We Care

About

The Geraldton Residential College undertook a $5.4 million upgrade of its facilities in 2002 which saw the amalgamation of the John Frewer Boys Hostel and the DellaHale Girls Hostel on the one site.  This upgrade has made us one of the leading boarding facilities in the state and one of the first to offer single room accommodation as our main form of accommodation for students.

The college provides boarding to students from the mid and north west of Western Australia who are unable to access an education provider in their local area or who are unhappy with the education facility offered in their area.

Our students are able to attend any school in Geraldton, namely Geraldton Senior College, John Willcock CollegeGeraldton Grammar School,  and Strathalbyn Christian College.

The care and wellbeing of students is our number one priority at the College, with the responsibility for so many teenagers at such a crucial stage in their lives. The College takes great care in selecting both ancillary and supervisory staff with the right blend of life skills and experience.  We have a minimum of 3 supervisory staff on duty at any one time to provide for the students needs.  Each night those staff will sleep over in the accommodation blocks with the students so they are on hand should an emergency arise.

Our modern kitchen facilities have the capacity to cater for up to 150 students comfortably at any one time and we are often complimented by parents and students on the quality and quantity of food provided.  Menus are planned and prepared according to health and safety guidelines and offer a balanced menu for students.  We offer cooked breakfasts 2 days a week and a continental style breakfast on the remaining days.  Students pack their own lunch every day and are offered fresh bread rolls,  a selection of cold meats and salad, fruit and sweets, which is as close to a home made lunch box as possible.  One day a week, staff will deliver pies, pasties and sausage rolls to the students at school and the Senior College students are able to return Mondays and Thursdays to the college for their lunch should they wish to.  Year 12 students are able to return every day as part of their privilege package.  Afternoon tea is offered every day after school and on weekends as is supper.  Parents are encouraged to pop in for a meal if they are visiting their children.

We do offer a laundry service to all students.  They only have to put out their clothes, sheets, towels etc in the morning and they will be washed and dried and put back into their named clothes baskets ready for collection in the afternoon.   Students are encouraged to do their laundry on a regular basis and staff will monitor the students to ensure no dirty or smelly laundry is left in their rooms.
